By plane: Ljubljana is best served by the Ljubljana Airport with daily connections to many European cities. From the airport, Ljubljana can be reached either by bus, shuttle (approx. EUR 10) or taxi (approx. EUR 40). Bookings can be made at the GRH transfer service using the booking code LIQUIDS 2017. For more details, please see Getting Here.

You may also fly to Trieste (Italy, 128 km southwest), Klagenfurt (Austria, 90 km north), or Zagreb (Croatia, 141 km southeast). Please check ground transportation options to Ljubljana before booking the flight.

By train: Ljubljana is a regional railroad junction and can be reached by train from all large European cities. The railway station is within walking distance from the city center.

By car: Use highways A1 and A2 to drive to Ljubljana from Austria (Klagenfurt 83 km, Vienna 380 km), Italy (Trieste 95 km, Venice 242 km), Croatia (Zagreb 116 km) or Germany (Munich 408 km).

Visa Requirements

Slovenia is a member of the Schengen area, and for citizens of many countries a valid passport (or personal identity card for residents of EU) is sufficient to enter Slovenia. Participants are advised to check visa requirements at the nearest Slovenian embassy or consulate. Information on visas and addresses of Slovenian embassies is available on the web site of the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Participants who need a visa to enter Slovenia have to request a Letter of Guarantee which will be prepared by the Organizing Committee. The visa cannot be obtained without a Letter of Guarantee which is intended to facilitate participant’s visa arrangements only, and does not imply the provision of any financial or other support. In case you will apply for a visa at any Slovenian embassy please fill out this form completely in order to arrange a Letter of Guarantee and fax it to +386 1 24 17 296 or send it attached in an email to registration@cd-cc.si at least one month before the arrival. The organizer is authorized to demand payment of registration fee before the visa procedure starts. Please note that all costs are to be covered by the participant (verification tax and DHL post costs if needed).

Useful Information for Visitors

  • Slovenia is located in the Central European time zone (CET/CEST), which covers most of Western/Central Continental Europe, except for the British Isles and Portugal.
  • The national emergency number is 112.
  • Mains power supply is 230 V, 50 Hz, Schuko plugs. Visitors from the British Isles, North America, Australia, New Zealand and the Far East will need adaptors.
  • Tap water is safe to drink.
  • Health insurance: European Economic Area nationals and Swiss nationals should obtain, and bring with them, their European Health Insurance Card. All other nationals are advised to arrange appropriate health insurance cover for the duration of their stay in Slovenia.
